6-Day Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Chogoria – Mount Kenya Forest (2,850m)
Early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel. Drive through the fertile slopes of eastern Kenya to Chogoria, collecting porters and climbing crew en route. Enter the forest zone and continue by 4×4 to the highest accessible roadhead.

Day 2: Chogoria – Moorland Camp (3,600m)
After breakfast, begin a gradual ascent through bamboo and giant heather. Detour via Lake Ellis for sweeping views of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giants’ Billiards Table. Picnic lunch beside alpine streams before climbing to a quiet high camp.

Day 3: Moorlands – Minto’s Hut Area
Traverse untouched alpine terrain with no fixed paths—true wilderness trekking. Join the classic Chogoria Route near Minto’s Hut, passing tarns and dramatic cliffs. Short afternoon walk to viewpoints overlooking Lake Michaelson and the Temple.

Day 4: Austrian Hut – Nelion Summit (Howell Hut)
Early start. Ascend scree slopes to Upper Simba Tarn, cross ridges near The Tooth, then descend to Austrian Hut. After rest and preparation, cross the Lewis Glacier and begin the technical rock climb to Nelion Summit, reaching Howell Hut by late afternoon.

Day 5: Traverse to Batian – Descent
Weather permitting, traverse from Nelion to Batian Peak—the highest point on Mount Kenya. Descend carefully back to Austrian Hut, then continue down to Minto’s and roadhead by evening.

Day 6: Chogoria – Nairobi
Breakfast, final pack-up, and scenic drive back to Nairobi. Drop-off at your hotel or airport. End of expedition.
